Elisa's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elisa Greenwood, who passed away on May 8, 2023 at age 64. She was born in 1959 to Arlene and Bob Mayhew, following her loving siblings, Cris and David Mayhew, who she remained close with throughout her life.
Elisa is survived by her husband Greg, her daughter Carley, her kids she gained in marriage Jenny, John and Matt, her grandson Ellis, and her devoted Jack Russels Frankie and Buffy.
Elisa spent her whole life in Kansas City, which she loved for the thunderstorms. She grew up in Overland Park, where she was elected Grand Bethal Honored Queen for the state of Kansas for several years, traveling the state with her family. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West, Penn Valley, and UMKC with a focus on civil engineering. Her most proud accomplishment was design support for one of the domes on the Country Club Plaza, and she was most happy to be out in the field surveying. She was a woman with many interests and careers though, ranging from working in restaurants and bars where she felt most like she could be herself, all the way to being a courier in the last several years where she was so happy to wear whatever she wanted and never go to an office.
Elisa had a first marriage to Charlie Mostar, who gave her her daughter Carley. But she married the love of her life, Greg Greenwood in 1990. They were living their dream in a hundred year old ranch home on an acre far enough away from Johnson County to make her very happy.
She was recently retired and planning to spend more time watching old movies, working in the garden to try to save the plants she always killed, quilting, and visiting her grandson in Milwaukee, WI.
Elisa was the kind of woman who always made an impression. She had a strong will, a big personality, and genuinely didn't care what anyone thought about her or anything else. She was deeply devoted to her loved ones, and they all knew she'd do anything she could for them, particularly if they needed to get out of trouble. Nobody ever got out of trouble like Elisa.
A memorial service in honor of Elisa will be held on May 13, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Church in Kansas City. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather and celebrate her life, whose memory, confidence, humor and fun loving life will live on through her family and loved ones.
