Elijah's obituary

Elijah Williams, Jr. was born in Albany, Georgia on August 31, 1960. He was the beloved son of the late Reverend Elijah “Rabbitman” Williams and Betty Mathis Williams.

He was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Dougherty Comprehensive High School. He continued his quest for knowledge at Albany State College and further demonstrated his athletic abilities as a Golden Rams football player.

Thereafter, Elijah enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction. During his military service, he received numerous awards and commendations as he advanced through the ranks. At the close of his tours of duty, he was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life.

Elijah had the great advantage of growing up in a loving, God-fearing home where he was nurtured in the Word of God. He dearly loved the Lord and remained prayerful throughout life’s journey.

In May 1983, Elijah was united in marriage to his beloved Harriet—a bond that was strong and unshakeable. Their union was blessed with two loving daughters—Brittiney and Hilary. Elijah was a loving husband and father who devoted much of his time and energy caring for the needs of his family. He was extremely proud of his daughters and supported them unconditionally in all their endeavors.

Elijah was a man of ambition and determination who had many passions in his life and was always busy pursuing them. His work experiences were very diverse and included employment as a store manager at Rooms-To-Go, owner of Platinum Photography (the catalyst that fueled his desire to further his education at Albany Technical College), and an infamous, distinguished voice at Radio Station 105.5FM. Elijah was also a highly skilled cobbler whose craftsmanship was in a league of its own.

Often- times, he could be found at Rabbitman’s Footwear and Shoe Shine working closely with his brothers in the family business started by their late father. Before he passed Elijah was working on establishing the first Cobbler School in Albany, Georgia.

Of the many skills that he had in his repertoire, many would say that his kindness, friendliness, humility, and unpretentiousness were some of his defining qualities. He was an undeniable man that inspired each person he encountered. The moment he walked into a room his infectious spirit and humor graced the atmosphere.

“Domino,” as he was endearingly called, was respected by many, and loved by many more.

On February 24, 2023, Elijah was called home to his eternal resting place. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Delijah Duvall, Vickie Thomas, Cathy Johnson, and Johnny Williams.

He leaves fond memories that will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Harriet Williams; loving daughters, Brittiney Williams and Hilary Williams; siblings, Nathaniel (Jo) Hollis, Patricia Williams, Tony (Charlie) Williams, Brenda Solomon, Cornelius Williams, Greta Harris, and Grindl Laster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

The family requests that all flowers and gifts are sent to the M.L. King Memorial Chapel (1908 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Albany, Georgia 3170) There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00am at M.L. King Memorial Chapel in his honor.
