Elijah's obituary
Elijah Avery Ferguson was born on December 17, 2014, at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, to Robin and Micaela Ferguson, while his parents were stationed at JEB Little Creek and NCDOC Suffolk. Tragically, he passed away on December 29, 2023. Upon his arrival, Elijah became the younger brother to Malachi, and their bond deepened as Elijah closely followed his brother's every move. In 2016, he assumed the role of a big brother to Rachel, forming an inseparable duo often mistaken for twins. Tiffany Freeman's Bouncy Babies Daycare in Suffolk, VA, nurtured Elijah's love for learning and self-expression. His educational journey included The Peninsula Academy and Tabb Elementary School in Yorktown, VA, as well as H.L. Johnson Elementary School in Royal Palm Beach, FL.
Elijah, affectionately known as "Eli," passed away at the age of 9 on December 29, 2023, following a courageous 6-month battle post his bone marrow transplant to combat sickle cell disease.
A warm and caring child, Eli was always easy-going and cherished moments with family and friends. He proudly stated that he wanted to be a doctor and a basketball player when he grew up. Elijah had a particular fondness for ramen, adored anime—his favorites being Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and Spider-Man/Miles Morales—and eagerly anticipated a trip to Japan. His memory will be eternally treasured.
An entertainer at heart, Eli displayed a keen interest in music and dance from an early age. Described as a leader and helper by his kindergarten teachers, he enjoyed activities such as playing with siblings and friends, engaging in video games, baseball, basketball, and bowling. Possessing a sweet and calm spirit, Elijah fostered harmony and laughter.
Although Elijah was taken from us much too soon, his brief time left an indelible mark, imparting lessons of compassion and peace. Survived by a loving network of family, friends, teachers, and classmates, including parents Robin (Micaela) Ferguson, brother Malachi, sister Rachel, grandparents Raymond (Paula) Ferguson, and Major Grant and Sharon Guest, as well as uncles, aunts, and numerous cousins, we kindly ask for your consideration in contributing to Elijah’s Memorial/Foundation.
