Elexezine's obituary

Elexezine Louise McFarland Nodd, 70, of Harvey, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 5, 2025, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, Louisiana.

Born January 7, 1955, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late Reverend Clifton McFarland Sr. and Julia King McFarland, Elexezine was the sixth child of eight children. At a young age, her family moved to New Orleans, continuing their life journey. In her younger years, Elexezine attended R.T. Danielle Elementary and Alcee Fortier High School, and later studied at Southern University of New Orleans.

It was at a dance at the Lake Front Campus of Southern University that Elexezine was introduced to the love of her life, Edmond Nodd, by a mutual friend. They united in marriage on May 22, 1976. During their 49 years of love, laughter, and partnership, they were blessed with three children and moved across the country to San Jose, California, before finally resettling back in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their life together was filled with attending dances, seaside drives to the Mississippi coast to lie on the beach and enjoy the water, and heartfelt conversations shared over countless meals.

Before taking on the role of “domestic goddess”, she worked as a counselor at Sophie B. Wright, a clerk at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and later at the Social Security Administration.

Elexezine was a light in every space — bright, loving, and radiant, inspiring laughter and joy in all who crossed her path. She lived every day of her life unapologetically herself–authentic and charismatic, she could captivate a room and was the life of the party. She carried a beautiful duality — always keeping it real, unafraid to speak her mind, yet doing so with a warmth and love that drew people even closer. She enjoyed cooking meals and eating good food, being surrounded by family, dancing, music, gardening, and shopping. She loved capturing every moment of life on camera, encouraging others to see the beauty in their truest selves and not take life too seriously. With a flair for fashion and an impeccable style, she always presented her best self to the world. Well-read and attuned, Elexezine would stay up-to-date on politics, pop culture, and any trends. Thoughtful and quick-witted, she always had a clever remark or a laugh ready — the kind that could leave you smiling or thinking long after. She was a woman who spent her lifetime cherishing those around her, pouring love into the world effortlessly, and celebrating every step of the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Dr. Clifton McFarland, Sr., and Julia King McFarland, and siblings Earnest Lee McFarland, Rosie Mary McFarland, and Clifton McFarland, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Edmond Nodd; her loving children, Ajene Kamau Nodd (Nikki), Nneka Tene VanPelt (Cornell), and Aisha Nodd Honore (Michael); her adored grandchildren Cionne Nodd, Ciara VanPelt, Cyniah VanPelt, Cornell Vanpelt Jr., and Taylor VanPelt; her siblings Autry Luv McFarland Aidoo, Abraham McFarland, Brenda Renee McFarland, and Jonathan Dwight McFarland; her aunt and uncle Robert and Mary Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.

Scripture

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

– 1 Proverbs 31:25-26

A Celebration of Her Spirit
