Eleanora's obituary

Eleanora Herr Costley Jones was born on March 11, 1926, the youngest of nine children born to Charles H. and Addie May (Martine) Costley in Harrisburg. PA. Her siblings were Violet, Glen, Marie, Charles, William, Daisy, Gertrude, and Mary. Educated in the Harrisburg school system, she embarked on a career in finance.

Eleanora met and married Herbert Jones and they made their home in The Bronx in New York City. Her passion in life was caring for her husband, her daughter Connie, her son Idris, her grandchildren, her mother-in-law and all her family.

She retired in the late 70's, after being employed by the National Council of Churches for almost 30 years as an accounting clerk. Upon completing that phase of life, Eleanora concentrated on becoming active in many community organizations. She joined the Peachtree Chapter of AARP, the Retirees of Dreiser Loop and the Building 4 Association of Co-Op City. For the Retirees, she sponsored many successful fundraising trips. She advocated for all the activities undertaken by her affiliations and was very supportive in all ways.

Eleanora was predeceased by her parents, her husband; her daughter, Constance Clendening; her son, Herbert, Jr. (Idris); and her grandson, Roger Clendening, II (Roger II).  She is survived with love by her granddaughter, Rashida Clendening, her ex-son in law, Roger K. Clendening, her nieces Patricia Banks and Rose Wadley, her great niece & nephew, Nicole Wadley and Keith Wadley, her devoted friend Ada Evelyn and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will always remember Eleanora's generosity and zest for life. There will be no memorial service and there is no request for flowers or donations of any kind at this time. Thank you.
