Eleanor's obituary

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Smith, who left us on October 1, 2023. Born on September 23, 1940, Eleanor's 83 years were filled with laughter, wisdom, and a distinct love for life.

Eleanor was predeceased by her mother, Helen & Gerald Smith, her brothers, Alfred and Joseph Smith, and her sister, Geraldine Spence. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Wendy SmithCobb, Lavern Smith, Zelda Hayes, and Douglas. Nine grandchildren; Christopher Cobb Jr, Kim Lawson jr, Kiara Lukie, Zelina Lawson, Jamila Smith, Mariah Cobb, Richard Starke, Jasmine Smith, Julian Smith, A host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends who were enriched by her existence.

Known for her stern yet humorous nature, Eleanor brightened many lives with her quick wit and unique sense of humor. She had a knack for making people laugh, even in the most challenging situations. She embodied a persistence and tenacity that were infectious, often reminding those around her that “Nothing is impossible.”

An avid fan of music, Eleanor loved the melodies of Sunshower by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Her love for television shows with classics like The Golden Girls and 227. Eleanor also held a deep fondness for old movies, often reminiscing about the golden era of cinema. Equally, she savored her trips to the casino, enjoying both the thrill of the games and the vibrant social atmosphere.

Eleanor’s enduring legacy will be her resilience and her wisdom. Her favorite goodbye phone song by Carol Burnette, "I'm so glad we had this time, together, just to have a laugh or sing a song, seems we've just got started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say... so long," encapsulates the spirit with which she lived her life. Those fortunate enough to have known her will remember Eleanor as a beacon of strength, optimism, and unyielding faith.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those grieving Eleanor's departure. May her life, full of love, laughter, and resilience, continue to inspire us and remind us of her enduring presence.
