Eleanor Janae Peavy Freeman, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in Bettendorf, Iowa, following a brief stay in hospice care.
Born on July 21, 1943, in Opp, Alabama, Janae was the beloved daughter of Voncille Barfoot Peavy. She grew up in Chattahoochee, Florida, and graduated from Chattahoochee High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, she joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, where she met the love of her life, Raymond Freeman.
After marrying, Janae transitioned from military service to full-time motherhood, raising her family while supporting Ray’s career. Their life together took them across the United States and even abroad to Hahn Air Base in Germany. In 1980, following Ray’s retirement out of Travis Air Force Base, they settled in Vacaville, California, where they owned and operated the Quik Stop convenience store. In 1990, they moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they spent many happy years together.
Following Ray’s passing, Janae relocated to Bettendorf, Iowa, where she lived for the past five years.
Janae is survived by her daughter, Beverly Freeman Weber of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, Robert Weber of Oklahoma and Rachel Weber of Ohio. She is also lovingly remembered by her lifelong friends Pat Blunt, Marie Roberts, and Bonnie Walden.
Janae will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her life was one of service, love, and grace.
She will be laid to rest at the VA Cemetery in Iowa.
