Eleanor's obituary

Eleanor Anna Colomba Mongonia, 93, passed away on November 13, 2019 in East Meadow, New York. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 12, 1926. She was an only daughter with six brothers, five older and one younger. During World War II, when five of her brothers were drafted, she sacrificed her opportunity for an education in order to help her father at the family-owned grocery store. She married John Mongonia in 1950, had three children and moved to Long Island. She is survived by her loving children, Louis, Catherine and Anna. She was predeceased by her husband, her six brothers, Thommy, Carmelo, Franky, Charlie, Sally (Rosario), Anthony and her parents Giuseppe and Raffaela Marullo.

Eleanor enjoyed cooking, especially her famous meatballs and highly requested fried gardoona (cardoons) at Christmas time, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and overall making everyone around her laugh and smile. Her famous words to everyone she encountered were, "I love you more".

Visiting will be held on Friday, November 15 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Bellmore Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16 at 10 am at St. Raphael's Church in East Meadow with burial at Holy Rood in Westbury to follow.
