Eleanor McKee (nee Marguerite Eleanor Folden)
May 22, 1937 - October 7, 2020, of Folden's Corners,
near Ingersoll, passed away peacefully in her 84th year,
with family by her side, at Markham Stouffville Hospital in
Markham.
Eleanor and her former spouse Tom McKee (Joan)
produced their own real life "Brady Bunch" of three girls
and three boys. “Elrod”, as she was often endearingly
referred to, was the loud and proud devoted mother to
Ken (Anne), Debbie Russell (Gord), Kerry (Phil Ball),
Colleen MacRae (Rob), Brad (Lesli) and Brian. Aka
'Gramma 'Kee', she had 16 loving grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Along with Tom and Joan, Eleanor
set an inspiring standard for successful co-grandparenting
and loving leadership for our wonderful extended family
on both sides of the Canada/USA border.
Eleanor was a force to be reckoned with, especially behind the wheel of her car. More than
once, as a pioneer single mom, she motored for almost 24 hours straight, with six young kids in
her station wagon, for a family vacation in Myrtle Beach.
She was also an iconic figure at local hockey rinks where she sounded like she knew the game
better than most coaches, referees or play-by-play announcers. When not at the rink or
ballpark, Eleanor loved TV news and sports, and was an avid Blue Jays Baseball fan.
It must also be noted that no one, NO ONE, had a sweeter tooth than Eleanor.
She was the real deal.
Eleanor was known for her straight-forward, shoot-from-the-hip honesty, and for, not only being
a dedicated mother, but also a loyal friend, hard worker, and woman of immense
resilience. The doors to her home were always open for family, friends, neighbours and the
"Birthday Bunch", which carried on for some 40 years.
In recent years, Eleanor further proved her resiliency, making a remarkable transformation with
her health. Unfortunately, she was dealt one final blow with NON-Covid-19 complications and
died of natural causes.
She will be sorely missed.
Her family would like to thank the countless personal support workers and health care
professionals who cared for her with such compassion, patience and love. There are no words
to adequately express our gratitude.
Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, there will be no service at this time. When it is safe to do
so, family and friends will gather for a celebration of Eleanor's life.
