I was her first husband. I'm thinking about her now after drinking half a bottle of wine. Our marriage didn't work out. I loved her deeply, but we were incompatible in a lot of ways. It's probably better that today people usually wait till they're older to get married; we were just out of university. It wasn't all a loss; we gave two wonderful children to the world. RIP, Ellie. Ellie and Marcel came to our congregation in Ottawa to serve in 2008-2009. We could not have asked for a more caring, generous or genuine couple to minister to our congregation. Ellie was always present with kind words, wise words, and some humorous ones too. I'll never forget her assistance in the Religious Exploration Program, and also her friendship.
Offering Marcel and all of Ellie's family our deepest condolences on the loss of a truly lovely lady.
Sincerely, Jen and Clare Brennan

Ellie and I were Pelicans together at Star Island in 1962. She recently reminded me in a letter of how we made ourselves capes by cutting up the hotel’s gray woolen blankets—much to the dismay of our supervisor. We floated around in our capes trying to look bohemian and dramatic. We shared my Merimeko dress—whenever one of us had the day off. We stayed in touch for the next 59 years, and saw each other on the Island many times as we grew older and had children. Our children carried on our Star island traditions, some becoming Pelicans themselves. I will so miss seeing her there, having known her on the Island from our late adolescence to old age. So sad to lose her.
