Elda's obituary
In Loving Memory of Elda Malvarosa
Elda Assenza Malvarosa, 91, of Port Chester, NY, passed peacefully on October 4, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in her son’s home in North Carolina. She lived a long, full life and will never be forgotten. Elda was born on September 9, 1932, to Ferdinando and Rosa Assenza in Reggio Calabria, Italy. Elda had an appreciation for all things beautiful in this world. She had five siblings: Maria, Teresa, Elena, Amedeo, and Nino, whom she all loved dearly. Her father, Ferdinando, was a child prodigy musician and was sadly killed while traveling by train in 1941 when Elda was just 9 years old. She married her soulmate, Vincent Malvarosa, on September 19, 1951. In December of 1951, Elda and her husband moved to Port Chester, New York. She became the mother of two boys, Mario (1952) and Nando (1958). Elda and her husband were proud and active members of their community, notably in the Lyons Club for many years. Elda was a true artist who expressed herself through her talented work as a seamstress, painter, pianist, cook, and gardener. She could make anything bloom and loved the color blue. Elda and her family lived in a three-family home on Fairview Avenue with her husband’s two brothers (Michael and Joseph), their wives (Alba and Maria), and their children (Michael, Marianna, Robert, and Vincent). "The house on Fairview Ave" is a legend within the Malvarosa family, as it represents the heart and soul of an extended family that is chock full of too many milestones and memories to mention.
Elda is survived by her sister, Elena; her sisters-in-law, Maria and Alba; her sons, Mario (Heather) and Nando (Carolyn); grandchildren: Paul (Jessica), Vincent-Michael (Jackie), Audrey (Matthiew), and Virginia (Michael); great-grandchildren: Michael, Cole, Everleigh, Willow Mae, and Colt Harrison; and many other nieces and nephews. Elda is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Vincent, her parents, Ferdinando and Rosa; her siblings: Maria, Teresa, Amedeo, and Nino; and her brothers-in-law: Michael and Joseph. A celebration of life ceremony will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
