Elaine's obituary
Elaine Frances Sterler, 77, late of Sonoma, CA passed away Friday June 6th, 2025. She was born February 18, 1948 at Unity Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, to Bernard Sterler and Emil Mae “Aimee” Sterler, loving parents who preceded her in death.
Elaine contrived quite a fabulous life for herself. Growing up on Long Island, she graduated from North Babylon High School with innate talent and propensity for the arts – drawing, dance, gymnastics, singing and drama. Early on she developed a drawing style that was pithy and colorful. She created birthday cards, humorous depictions/stories, business ads and logos, graphic arts for sundry restaurants and other concerns, including Houston’s renowned Anderson Fair Retail Restaurant. Elaine was a fun person to be around. Her eclectic humor shows in a great pile of comical illustrations she made, collaborating with her brother on a book, Robert Sterler - WouldArt.

She was flamboyant in her attire and had a matching personality. Another notable talent was musical. Elaine had a superb singing voice with which she loved to render jazz standards. She performed both acapella and with piano or guitar at a host of various venues, and recorded a couple of CDs.
Elaine’s company was ever welcome for her laudable attitude and inveterate sweetness. She resided in New York, Texas and southern California before coming to Sonoma County. At age 62 she married Sonoma resident Phil “Lynx” Mashy. She is survived by him, and by her siblings Lynne, Gail, Robert and Sharon. Elaine is dolefully missed by us all, and all who have had been blessed by her friendship.
