Elaine's obituary

Elaine Katherine Nickandros passed away in her West Yarmouth home on the morning of January 11th, 2021 after a tough year battling multiple health issues. She did so, however, always with a magical sense of humor and a smile on her face. Elaine was a beloved friend to many, a sister, and a lover, but to me she was the best Aunt anyone could ever ask for. She taught my brother and I to ride a bike, and how to make kites out of plastic shopping bags to fly at Englewood beach. We would go “kurplunking” there too, throwing rocks into the water. Auntie was my special guest for “Beary Special Person Day” in second grade and never let me forget it. We used to watch The Wizard of Oz on a weekly basis, and her favorite part was when Aunt Em would holler “Dorothy!” during the tornado. I last saw her at Christmas, and we reminisced about her taking us to Friendly’s and how our waitress, Paula, would put extra M&M’s in my Candy Shoppe Sundae. Auntie would be the first to call my brother and I on our birthdays, and the big purple blanket she knitted me is the best gift I ever got from her even though she claimed it wasn’t much. My Aunt was the family cook and relayed to me the importance of aligning the noodles in the pastitsio. She always brought up the time in the ocean in Florida when I yelled at the whole beach that she was 29-years-old and available for a boyfriend, even though she was 39. She made me promise that I’d always say she was 29-years-old. She also made me promise that I would take care of her when she was old.
Auntie always knew how to have fun. And she was funny and always laughing. She had a huge heart, a beautiful spirit, and loved my brother and I like her own children. We used to laugh about all the ridiculous things she kept in her pocketbook, most notably the tiny fork she found in there. We always poked fun at each other. As the time passes, more and more memories will surface, and I won’t be able to go a day without thinking about her. Auntie, I know you knew how much we loved you, and still do, and in that I find much comfort.
With all the love,
Lulu

Arrangements for cremation are being made by Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Homes. No funeral service will be held. Her final resting place is at Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth.
Elaine deserves a party, one of which will be held at a later date, when it is determined safe to do so. Please leave here a memory you have of her, things you know she loved, songs, photos, etc. May this be a representation of the joyful and impactful life she lived.
