Elaine's obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Beverly Elaine "Rigs" Hazelrigs Manross, but preferred to be called Elaine. Born on the 11th of March 1950, she departed to eternal rest on the 3rd of August 2023.  A respected and adored member of our community, Elaine's absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.

She was the proud mother of Stacie Waters, Christine Manross, Renee Manross, and Richard Raymond Manross III. She was a grandmother to Brandon and Tiffani Coke as well as Flames Carter. Unfortunately, Tiffani preceded Elaine in death. She was also the loving daughter of the late Golden and Evelyn Hazelrigs and widow of the late Richard Raymond Manross II.

A graduate of North Fulton High School, Class of 1968, Elaine pursued a successful career at Southern Bell/BellSouth, where she retired in 2004 after years of dedicated service. She settled in Lilburn, GA in 1979 and later moved to Savannah, GA in 2019.

In her spare time, Elaine remained active outside of work, volunteering for the Snellville Jaycees as well as donating to the United Way.  Also becoming a ASA Umpire, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed reading novels by Stephen King, Patricia Cornwall, Dean Koontz, and was a fan of the Lord of the Rings series. As a music enthusiast, Elaine followed artists like James Brown, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin, among many, many others.

Some of Elaine's favorite pastimes included watching Law & Order series, Chicago Med and Fire series, Hill Street Blues, and ER. An avid sports fan, she loved the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves, and her game nights wouldn’t be complete without a round of trivia, bridge or monopoly. Elaine possessed a wonderful sense of adventure, with Daytona Beach and Texas, where her best friend Chrys lives, were among her favorite vacation spots.

Elaine was a woman of principle, advocating for causes such as the United Way, LGBTQ+ rights, Women's Rights, Civil Rights, and Laborers Rights. Her personality is best described as polite, funny, creative, smart, and friendly, made her a beloved figure in our community. Her greatest accomplishments include being a dedicated mom and a ASA Umpire, who was part the National Indicator Fraternity and being inducted into the Umpire Hall of Fame in 1995.

Elaine's legacy of strength and independence, coupled with her teachings on loyalty and self-advocacy, will forever remain embedded in our hearts. Her radiant spirit and unwavering friendship will be sorely missed, yet fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life has been planned at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center in Buford, Georgia on March 16, 2024. She would have turned 74 on the 11th. Please be sure to RSVP to this event.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way or an Animal Rescue of your choice in Elaine's name.
