Elaine's obituary

It is with deep love and sorrow that we share the passing of Elaine Gail (Ashley) Hart who went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2025, at the age of 80.  Born in Port Huron, Michigan, to Harold Ashley and Sophia Ashley (Albert), Elaine lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and devotion to her family, friends and community.

Elaine graduated from Port Huron High School in 1962 and continued her education at Port Huron Junior College from 1962-1964.  She worked in healthcare as a nurse’s aide and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for many years, serving with skill and compassion in the hospital, home and nursing home settings and retired from Macomb County.  She was a natural caregiver—both in her profession and in her personal life—and was especially devoted to her husband, Larry, throughout their 22 years of marriage.

She enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and simple pleasures, including arts and crafts, writing poems, letters, and cards, tending to plants and flowers, cooking, caring for pets, shopping, watching movies, and spending cherished time with her friends and family (and especially her grandchildren).  Her joyful spirit shone through in her warm smile, frequent laughter, and enthusiasm for life’s everyday blessings. She was very proud of her family and always had encouraging words to share.

Elaine was deeply involved in her church communities, where she regularly attended worship services and participated in church fellowship activities.  In later years, she lived at the American (Baldwin) House in Pontiac for several years, where she formed many friendships and was well-loved for her kindness, caring spirit and active participation in community life.

Elaine was always kind and grateful and a wonderful friend to others throughout her life.  As she faced mounting health challenges during the latest years of her life, her caregivers consistently remarked on how sweet, loving, and thankful she remained. Her graciousness and faith shone through even in difficult times.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Sophia Ashley (Albert) and Harold Ashley; siblings Edward, Carol, Helen, Myrna, and Laura Lee, her son, Gregory Dee and her husband, Larry.  She is survived by her children, Roger (Cindy) and Natalie (Sri), stepchildren, Korey (Deborah) and Kimberly (Ken), her grandchildren, Emily (Matt), AJ (April), Trenton, and Chloe, her siblings, George (Darcy), Sondra, and Nina, and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended relatives.

Elaine’s faith, generosity, and love leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.  She will be remembered for the care she gave, the joy she shared, and the example she set of living with gratitude and grace.

A funeral/ memorial service and luncheon will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38900 Harper Avenue, Clinton Township, MI 48036.   Family visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM and the service will start at 11:00 AM.  A luncheon will be held at the church immediately after the service.
