Elaine's obituary

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Elaine Barclay Hanna, “GaGa”, who left us on June 25, 2023. Born on April 3, 1970, in Hamilton, Scotland. Elaine lived a life full of passion, freedom, and intimate connection, leaving behind a legacy deeply etched in the hearts of those who knew her.

Elaine was a dedicated to her family and friends, both near and far, survived by her only daughter Samantha McClements, devoted husband Gregory Hanna, loving mother Sarah “Sadie” Barclay, supportive brother Jim Barclay, caring niece Gillian Barclay, and her dear sister-in-law Isobel Barclay. She is also survived by her son-in-law Larry Hargrove, sweet granddaughter Presley Hargrove, doting grandson Lachlan Hargrove, step-son Mark Hanna, daughter-in-law Kim Hanna, and grandkids Tessa, Michael, and Cole Hanna, who were among her greatest accomplishments. Elaine’s Grandkids,  especially, fueled her day-to-day and her presence will be forever missed by these wonderful young ones. It brings great comfort to the family that she will be beside her daddy, Big Jim Barclay, in heaven.

In 2001, Elaine moved to Pleasanton, California, where she enriched her life with a multitude of hobbies and interests. Later finding herself located in Knoxville, Tennessee for the last 21 years. She delighted in Indian and Thai cuisine, traditional British “snackies”, and a warm glass of tea or a nice mixed adult beverage. A casual reader, she enjoyed works by Martina Cole and was a dedicated fan of Duran Duran, Elton John, The Carpenters, and WAY more than can be listed. Her passions also extended to television, particularly murder mysteries, Ghost Hunters, NCIS, and comedy shows like Friends and The Nanny. She loved gardening with her beloved Mo Anam Cara, Gregory Hanna.

Elaine had a soft spot for Disney movies, especially “The Lion King”, and for the Glasgow Rangers. She loved kicking ass in dominos. She treasured spending time with her grandkids and was always up for a chat with friends, long distance, or even total strangers. She enjoyed visiting new restaurants, lounging by the pool, and frequenting "the Walmart" and Myrtle Beach. Her unique way of staying active was through her love for food, jokingly calling it "snacky snacking". She loved to visit her mum and family and friends in Scotland.

Elaine was best described as bubbly, direct, hilarious, loving, understanding, and passionate, with a serious touch of mischief. Her life's lessons included the importance of self-reflection, always reminding us to "look inside before looking out". Elaine will be missed by friends and family across multiple continents, but her vibrant spirit and her legacy of living life on her own terms will forever remain in our hearts.

In Elaine's memory, donations are being graciously accepted at "Take Elaine Home" https://everloved.com/life-of…. Though she passed young, Elaine lived her years as deeply as anyone else. She will be profoundly missed, yet her memory will live on, inspiring us all to embrace life with the same vigor and enthusiasm she did.
