The Monks of the Western Priory wrote a song about weaving the fabric of our lives. This is some of my thoughts of how Eileen created some of the fabric of her life.

The design was created by her parents and her grandparents. I watched them provide the nurturing and the values that shaped her. However, as I observed, it didn't take long for

Eileen to add to the color and texture of the fabric of her life in amazing ways.

My first recollection of Eileen was when I asked her at four years old, what do you want to be when you grow up? Without skipping a beat, she said, “I want to be a baby nurse, babies need to be cared for”.

Another memory, was when she and her sister accepted our invitation to be flower girls at our wedding. Looking back at the pictures, I remember a composed, competent, caring, spirited, young girl being the best she could be as a flower girl and as ambassador to all our guests.

As a young teen, I watched her care for her aging grandparents, aunts and uncles in any way she could to make their life a little bit better. I was proud when she fulfilled her early wish to become a baby nurse, as she obtained a nursing degree.

Looking at the pictures of Eileen holding Caroline and then Kevin, I remembered the loving smile on her face that said I'm going to do all I can to help them be the best they can be.

I think of Eileen when I hear the lyrics of the song from the Western Priory.

“There is an energy in us which make things happen when the paths of other persons touch ours and we have to be there and let it happen. When the time of our particular sunset comes, our accomplishments won't really matter a great deal, but the clarity and care with which we have loved others will speak with vitality of the great gift of life we have been for each other.”

As you have also shared in your memories of Eileen, its apparent that when Eileen's path crossed ours, she was present. She loved each one of us and added a special vitality to each of our lives.

Thank you Eileen,

Aunt Maureen

I, quietly, have been reading all of the memories that my cousins have shared here.  It seems that we all have in common so many of the great experiences growing up with Eileen as our big cousin.  Eileen took me to Disney movies, the ice-cream parlour (was it Eddie's Sweet Shop?), crowned me a lavender bridesmaid, and made me feel like I was special in this big world .  We had a tradition in our family - when one girl passed from her teen years to her twenties, while another was starting her teens, the former would pass on her years to this younger one entering this part of her life.  I was beside myself when Eileen gave me a little handmade book titled, "Your Years." In it were all of her hopes and wishes for me as I grew into a young woman, as well as her tidbits of advice.  I can still visualise the writing on the cover and the notes inside.

Like everyone here has said, no matter the timeframe of her life or years spent, she always lived  and lived them boldly and with laughter, strength., and care for those around her.

Eileen was my labor nurse at Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens. She had to leave when her shift was over but came back the next day( her day off) to check in with me and to meet my baby.
A few years ago when I was feeling especially distanced from all the cousins I grew up with and love dearly (we are all so spread out now, so far from Catalpa and Fresh Pond Road), there was a knock on the door, and there was a box of pizelle and chocolate potiča from Eileen. Then, some time later, she took the time to send me 3+ pages of notes and hints on "the secrets of potiča",  including hints like "...use your Kitchen Aid or sturdy stand mixer that has a dough hook...it gives us greater appreciation for our ancestors and their baking skills" and "....this is where you clean up the mess and make an egg white omelet or freeze your egg whites for merengue cookies..don't forget your cocktail".  My deep condolences to Maria, Mary Kay, Caroline and Kevin.  May the memory of Eileen's larger than life presence, unforgettable wit, and big heart sustain you during this heartbreaking time.
Dear Eileen’s family,
We send our sympathies and condolences.
Sincerely,
Thomas Kobetitsch and family

I’m so saddened to hear this. Eileen was such a great L and D nurse. Great memories at HHwith her. She will be sorely missed. Prayers and hugs.

Eileen, you were my reason I went to L&D when I did. You told me all of your best labor and delivery stories until late late at night when I was taking care of you in the hospital 7 years ago. You encouraged me and challenged me. You were one of the best and I’m so thankful to have learned from you❤️

Always the “fun aunt”…. Thank you for making me laugh for 30 years.
Eileen, I am heartbroken to hear you have gone too soon. I loved you and learned so much from you—your vulnerability and so much empathy to every woman you cared for. Prayers for Kevin and Caroline.

Ben and I are sorry for your loss of your  daughter, sister, mother, cousin, and  Aunt Eileen.  Eileen was loved and beloved by her family as we sat with her at Jimmy and Danielle’s wedding. She was so happy to be there with her family. Her love triumphed her problems as she enjoyed all the wonderful festivities. A giving woman who will be missed by so many family, friends and people she took care of her whole life. Peace be with you. ❤️       Jane and Ben Siebecker

Eileen and Mary were my first best friends. All of my early memories in Ridgewood: circus shows, twirling on piano stools, singing at the piano, include Eileen.  More recently, we spent a very memorable Potica making weekend lesson with Kathleen . Eileen, you were one of a kind. Your humor and kind heart will be truly missed. You made the world brighter.
I first met Eileen during  kindergarten orientation. Our kids hit it off that day and we formed a “mom friendship” that lasted through high school graduation. She was funny, brilliant, and is the only person I’ve known who could be both sincere and sarcastic in the same breath. She will be missed.

Eileen was my birthday buddy and my legit big cousin. Eileen, had no idea how special she made this awkward, uncool soul feel when she brought me to my first Rocky Horror Picture show (and whispered all the lines so I could be a real fan) , asked me to be in her lavender themed wedding with the big cousins, let me come to her graduation from nursing school and called or reached out to me to remind me of our special connection each December. I love that the last time I saw her, her smile lit up and her hair was as lavender as my dress at her wedding. My deep sadness is shared with each of you as you grieve the loss of this amazing, compassionate, deeply rooted, funny, beautiful  woman. I will miss her irreverence, her sweet spirit, and kind, kind heart. She loved us all well.
