Eileen's obituary
Eileen Mary (Gaither) Mitcheltree, 79, of Harrington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. Born on March 20, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland to Harry D Gaither and Eleanor Gaither, Eileen was a devoted widow to John R Mitcheltree, a loving mother, and a beloved grandmother, whose faith, strength of character, and profound wisdom touched the lives of all who knew her.
A devoted member of St. Casimir Church, Eileen's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her kind spirit and compassionate heart were evident in every act of service, whether it was volunteering at the church or with the community organization when she was younger or offering support to family, friends and neighbors. She inspired everyone around her with her compassion and genuine love for others. She was a steadfast member of her community in Baltimore for over 60 years.
Eileen was the proud mother of two children—John and Tammy—who carry forward her values of strength and love. She instilled in them the values of integrity, hard work, and perseverance, shaping them into the individuals they are today. Her wisdom and guidance were a source of comfort and strength, and she always had a way of seeing the silver lining in any situation.
As a grandmother, she found immeasurable joy and pride in her four grandchildren—JR, Jacqueline, Celia and Gwyneth—whom she adored and taught the importance of tradition and family. She cherished every moment spent with them, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons that will resonate for generations to come.
Known for her unshakeable character, Eileen faced life’s challenges with grace and determination. Her legacy of love, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her wisdom was often sought out for guidance. Her gentle spirit and insightful advice left a lasting impact on everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R Mitcheltree and her sister Eleanor Calvert. Eileen is survived by her children, grandchildren, a sister and five brothers and a community of friends who loved her dearly. A brief service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Cemetery where all are welcome to share their memories and honor her legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Washington County, continuing Eileen’s mission of service.
Rest in peace, Mom. Your strength and love will forever guide us.
