Eileen's obituary

Eileen Clare Mark, 95, longtime resident of Mesquite, TX went to be with our Lord on February 27, 2025. Eileen was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 22, 1929 to Orel and Edna Stephenson. She attended Cass Technical School in Detroit, MI. Her first job was working for a dentist as an office manager and dental assistant, she then worked in a bank. On March 12, 1955 she married her childhood sweetheart, Dale, from the neighborhood where they both grew up. They lived in Boston while Dale was in the Coast Guard. Their first child, Renee Louise Mark, was born in 1959. The family then moved to Houston in 1961 and Eileen became interested in gardening. During their time in Houston, she was very active in the gardening community, joining several garden clubs and holding various positions including President, Vice President and Historian. In 1962, James Stacey Mark was born and one year later, Bruce Gordon Mark was born. The family moved again in 1969, this time to Mesquite, TX. During her time in Mesquite, Eileen was very active in the Dallas area garden club community, holding an assortment of positions in several different clubs. She was President and Vice President of the United Methodist Women, chaired the St. Marks UMC Bazaar, was chairman of the St. Marks Board of Trustees, was a perennial choir member and managed the St. Marks “Pantry Help” program for many years. She was a Cub Scouts den mother for four years, was heavily involved with Girl Scouts and was a Red Hats Society member for many years, often including her sister and mother in the fun. Eileen was very creative and enjoyed making and teaching all kinds of crafts including sewing, flower arranging, seashell art, paper mache nativity sets, and many more. Once the kids grew up, she went to work at Stroud’s Nursery which soon changed hands to become Sunday Nursery where she worked for 6 years as the resident plant expert. She was the unofficial neighborhood greeter, welcoming new neighbors with a homemade pie or cake to break the ice and start off on a friendly note. She enjoyed writing and had pen-pals around the world, including Japan, Holland and Hawaii and had the good fortune to travel and meet several in person. Eileen is preceded in death by husband Dale, son Jim, and sister Mary Louise Stephenson. Survivors include daughter Renee and husband Larry Trippel, daughter-in-law Alison Mark, son Bruce and wife Karen Mark; grandchildren Andrew Trippel, Alex Trippel, Melody Plate, Lela Plate, Aaron Trippel, Calvin Mark, Megan Gonzales, Quest “Augie” Mark, Kaylin Cook and TomIsaac Mark; great-grandchildren Bella; Ki, Bryce, Zaiden, Aurelia, Novalie; Fox; Josephine, and Olivia. A memorial service was held at the home of Bruce and Karen Mark March 1, 2025.
