Eileen's obituary
Eileen Jane Fagan (née Murphy) passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Eileen was predeceased by her husband of more than 66 years, and is survived by their four children (Daniel, Denise, Eileen, and Laurie), seven grandchildren (Brittney, Danielle, Erin, Kelly, Marie, Breanne, and Emmett), four great-grandchildren (Sadye, McKenzie, Aidan, and Elena), and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends near and far. As the last surviving of her four siblings, Eileen’s life was a testament to enduring strength, deep devotion, and love that spanned generations.
Born and raised in New Jersey to Irish immigrant parents, Eileen grew up in a home filled with warmth, faith, and the unmistakable rhythm of Irish music and dance — a joy she herself embraced as a young girl. Her Irish roots were a lifelong source of pride.
After finishing school, Eileen began working in New York City, where her quick mind and determined spirit served her well. But fate had other plans. At an Irish Feis, Eileen met Joseph “Bud” Fagan’s aunt Martha, who made a deal to buy all of Eileen’s raffle “chances” in exchange for a promise that she would write to Bud while he was away. That simple gesture sparked a love story that would last more than 65 years. After months of letters, Eileen and Bud met in person — and became engaged that very night. Their connection was instant, and their bond unshakable.
Throughout Bud’s military career, Eileen created a true home wherever they went — one filled with laughter, kindness, and the irresistible aroma of her baking. When they eventually settled in San Diego, Eileen’s intuition and determination shone once again. She and Bud invested in real estate during the 1970s and 80s, building a strong foundation for their family’s future through equal parts foresight, hard work, and partnership. She also worked as a secretary, balancing her career with raising a family and nurturing all who entered her home. Eileen had a deep appreciation for the value of a dollar and took pride in making the most of what she had. She possessed a discerning eye for a good bargain and approached life with both practicality and grace.
Eileen’s legacy is one of courage and unwavering love — the kind that endures in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. Her warmth and spirit will continue to light the way for her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Poway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St Jude’s Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate) or a charity of your choice in Eileen’s honor.
May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
