Eileen's obituary

Gansevoort, NY- Eileen Theresa (Cooney) Lahm, 62, a resident of Gansevoort, NY, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 21, 2024.

Eileen was born on June 2, 1961 in Huntington, NY to the late Arthur and Eileen (Ignacio) Cooney. She grew up in Huntington, NY and was a part of a large Irish Catholic family. It was on Long Island where she met her husband, the late Peter Lahm. They were married and resided on Long Island until they moved to Gansevoort, NY in 2002.

Eileen was a graduate of Walt Whitman High School. She tended bar for many years at Cooney’s, a bar her family owned. She met her husband Peter while working at the Harborview in Northport. Eileen's last position was a Saratoga Hospital where she worked in the claims department for many years. Eileen had a few jobs in her lifetime, but none of them were more important to her than being a mom to her two boys, Ryan and Kevin.

Anyone who knew Eileen, knew how much she loved animals. If you saw posts on her social media, you would always see her posting about missing fur babies and pet adoption websites. Once when she was in Costa Rica, she found a cat who was a stray and looked like it was not doing well. She felt so sorry for the cat that she decided to figure out a way to bring it back to the US and make it a part of her family. Chico still resides with her boys today. She had a big heart. That was the kind of person she was. Eileen was a kind and generous person. Eileen enjoyed cooking, the beach, taking a hike with her dogs and family, music, make-up and fashion. Eileen always enjoyed a good concert and having fun! She loved visiting Long Island and heading to the ocean. Eileen also owned a second home in Costa Rica where she loved to spend a few weeks each winter enjoying the warm weather and beaches.

Standing at 5ft 10in, you couldn’t help but notice her when she walked into a room. She was a stunner inside and out. One of Eileen’s favorite places was in the kitchen, cooking for her family. She was an excellent cook, always trying new recipes. Her family appreciated all the time she took to prepare delicious meals to bring them together. It is no wonder that this is what she was doing when she passed suddenly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by brother, Stephen Cooney and her sister, Madeline Cooney.

Survivors include her sons, Ryan Lahm and Kevin Lahm and his significant other, Madeline Walton, of Gansevoort, NY; her brothers, Michael Cooney and his wife, Julie of Matthews, NC, Gerald Cooney and his wife, Jennifer of Fanwood, NJ and Thomas Cooney and his wife, Patricia of Olive Bridge, NY; her sister-in-law, Cindy (Lahm) Kinnane and her husband. Craig of Portsmouth, ME; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved pets, Ozzy, Sadie, Chico, Sassy and Charcoal.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1-3 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024 with a memorial service to follow at 3pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY.

Heaven has gained another angel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eileen’s name may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter; 6010 County Farm Road, Ballston Spa, NY 12020
