Effie's obituary
EFFIE P. MCHENRY, a beloved mother, grandmother and educator, passed away August 15. She was born in Bristol, Oklahoma to parents, Henry and Gladys Wofford, on August of 1937.
She spent her formative years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where attended school and decided to become an educator. Following high school graduation, she continued her studies attending Chicago Teacher College in Illinois. She was a gifted educator and administrator as well as ardent student, receiving several post graduate degrees and certificates.
Effie began her career in the Chicago public school system as a teacher at Betsy Ross Elementary School. For 47 years she served in several capacities including, counselor, assistant principal and principal. The majority of her career was spent at Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary.
She was a dedicated mother to her two sons and doting “Grammie” to three grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and travel in her spare time. She often volunteered for causes that she was passionate about. She was a member of the Shiloh SDA Church, where she served in various positions.
Effie is survived by son Mark McHenry, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela McHenry and their adult children, Mallory, Michael and Marguerite McHenry, as well extended family members and friends.
