Edwin left Trinidad as a young child with his family for China. He returned after the war. He met the love of his life, Wilma, aboard the steamer trip home to Trinidad. They courted, then married. It would have been 65 years this June.
In their Point Cumana home, Wilma and Edwin raised three children and helped raise five grandchildren. It was here, he finished his life on earth. Family was central to Edwin. He worked in several family stores and retail shops. For many years, he assisted Wilma in running her hair salon. He was her right-hand man.
Family was what mattered most to Edwin. In his own, quiet way, he provided unconditionally and extensively for his children and grandchildren. Edwin and Wilma’s home always had children within and still does today!
Edwin loved the water, teaching all his children to swim on the beaches close by in Chaguaramas. He worked around the house, keeping the yard, house, and car in proper order. He was an avid reader of the daily paper and any manual of tools or gadgets he purchased. Late in life, Edwin took to technology using his computer, iPad, and smartphone to stay connected to the world and play games.
Early in life, Edwin stayed fit, swimming and lifting weights. Well into his 80s, he could manage tasks that men half his age may have shied away from. Edwin was very quiet, but could softly deliver a zinger when you least expected it, bringing a smile to both your faces.
Edwin was a wonderful father, grandfather, and husband. His quiet demeaner and steady influence are deeply missed by his family and friends.
