Edwin's obituary
Edwin Prentice “Doc” Dierdorff
1936-2024
Edwin Prentice Dierdorff, fondly known as “Doc,” passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Born on June 24, 1936, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, to Colonel H. Beecher Dierdorff and Martha Washburn (nee Prentice), Edwin lived a life full of dedication and joy.
Doc was a beloved figure in Kailua, where he served as an ENT specialist after retiring from the Army as a Lt. Colonel in 1970. His unwavering commitment to his patients and community earned him immense respect and admiration. Beyond his medical career, Edwin was a gifted musician, enchanting audiences as a barbershop quartet member and a soloist guitarist and singer. His passion for music was matched by his love for athletics. A lifelong athlete, he excelled as a gymnast, marathoner with a personal best of 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 7 seconds, scuba diver, weightlifter, and avid canoe paddler. Notably, he paddled the English Channel in a six-man Hawaiian canoe, the “Wa’alele,” donated by Dr. Phil Foti and his Ohana to the youth of England.
Edwin is survived by his devoted wife, Audrey Dierdorff, and his children from his previous marriage to Patricia Dierdorff (nee Thomson): Susan (Suesi) Dierdorff, Mary (Marty) Rockwell, Laura Sansonetti, and Edwin Prentice Dierdorff Jr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Clea Middlebrook Pesola, Natalie Strauss, Ryan Belles, Brittany Mack, Gabriella, and Sophia Sansonetti, and his great-grandchildren, Soren and Soleil Pesola, and Sanoe, Jay, and Silas Mack. He is also survived by his nephew & nieces by his older brother H. Beecher Dierdorff Jr. (deceased).
Doc’s life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and community spirit. His contributions to medicine and his musical talents brought joy and healing to many. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
