Ed's obituary

Edward Vernon Wood III, known as Ed, a Dallas Baylor baby, Texas A&M Aggie fan and supporter of both the Texas Rangers Baseball and Dallas Stars Hockey teams through thick and thin, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, June 19th, 2023.

Born November 5th, 1965 at Baylor Hospital of Dallas Texas to Edward Vernon Wood II (deceased) and Patsy Dunnavent Moore, Ed was raised in Dallas and Carrollton, graduating from Newman Smith High School in 1984.  He went on to study at Texas A&M University for a few semesters, eventually settling into a long career as a software programmer.  He enjoyed bowling, watching all sorts of sports with his friends and a good pint of beer.

Ed is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kari), his daughter Kristin, his mother Patsy (Pat), his brother Clark and sister-in-law Maria, his nephews Jayson and Nicholas (and his family) plus his many extended family and friends.

Ed's body is first being studied by the doctors and researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center in their Willed Body Program (https://www.utsouthwestern.ed…) to better understand how he was able to live so long with a GBM (Glioblastoma Multiformae brain tumor)!  When they have finished their evaluations, his ashes will be returned to the family.  UTSW has an option for burying his cremains at sea (his fondness for a Viking funeral would revel in this), but Ed always wanted to travel.  So, Kari plans on taking him along with her on any future RV excursions.

Instead of flowers, Ed asked that we donate funds to the Southwestern Medical Foundation (https://swmedical.org/memoria…) in order to give back to the organization that worked with and for him during his six year brain tumor journey.  We suggest choosing that your gift be directed to the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute (https://utswmed.org/odonnell/)  Or, if you prefer, choose a place close to your own heart to donate to in his name.

All are asked to take a moment and celebrate Ed in their own way.  The most appropriate way we know of doing so is by raising a glass of your favorite drink and making a zinger of an intuitive comment.   We will hold a gathering celebration of Ed's life in the near future with details to follow.
