Edward's obituary
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. Edward Melvin Singleton. He was born on August 9, 1942, and has been called home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2025. Edward was a beloved figure in his life, known for his warm personality and infectious humor. His enduring lesson to all was the importance of hard work, a value he carried and displayed throughout his life.
Edward was born to Edward Singleton and Eloise Gadsden Singleton in Charleston, South Carolina. He grew up in a nurturing environment and was educated at Frierson Elementary School. His early life in Charleston imbued him with a strong sense of community and a love for family that remained a central part of his life.
He is survived by his dedicated wife, Hattie Grimball Singleton, and his loving children; daughters Jeanene Vance, Terace (TeeTee) Vance, Tamara (Tammy) Vance, Nichelle (NeNe) Singleton, Maria S., and sons Eric S., and Reggie S. His memory will also be cherished by his sisters, Mary German and Beatrice Buggs, and brother, Harold Singleton, Special cousin/friend Jackie Owens, Granddaughters Sharnasia, Diamond, Zamaya Ja’niyah and Attalia, Grandsons Tykiem, Lakeem, David, Ethan and Xzavier, Four great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edward was predeceased by his father, Edward Singleton mother, Eloise Gadsden Singleton, Three brothers and Three Sisters.
Known to friends and family as a man who could lighten any room with his humor, Edward was a constant source of joy and laughter to those around him. His teachings about the value of hard work have left an indelible mark on all who knew him, offering guidance and inspiration to his loved ones.
As we mourn the loss of Edward, we also celebrate his life, cherishing the joyful moments we shared with him. His memories will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who had the pleasure to know and love him.
