Edward's obituary
Edward "Eddie" Powell, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025. Born on January 25, 1946, Edward preferred to be known as Eddie, a reflection of his approachable and jovial nature.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Antionette Campbell and Stephanie Mills; siblings Vicky Byrd and Ricky Powell; and an array of beloved grandchildren including Latavia Bell, Ronald Goodspeed, Terrie Goodspeed, Robrisha Donaldson, Precious Powell, Lawrence Sparks, Dejion Sparks, Alasia Sparks, Omria Sparks, Fantaijah Sparks, Taahjah Campbell, and Daunte Campbell jr. and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and He was predeceased by his parents, Maybell and Earl Powell; his siblings, Joe and Cherry Powell; his son, Antione Powell; and his granddaughter, Brittiania and grandson Jahon gadlin
A Memorial service will be held on October 3, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Victory Outreach San Jose, where family, friends, and well-wishers can gather to celebrate Edward's fruitful life.
Edward graduated from George Washington High School, San Francisco, CA in 1964. He had an undeniable love for seafood, and his preferred drink was a simple yet satisfying mix of brandy and Coca-Cola. The Bible was his favorite book, and he admired movies such as Scarface. A fan of James Brown's music, Edward's favorite sports team was the 49ers. He enjoyed playing cards and watching performances by The Isley Brothers. Fondly, Edward loved spending time at family events and visiting different places with his best friend Ricky.
Edward's favorite recreational activities were centered around family and friends. He loved going to the park and had a penchant for Hawaii as a vacation spot. Locally, The Elks club was one of his favorite spots. Blue was a color dear to him, and he actively contributed to causes related to MS.
Edward's personality truly shone through when he spoke about his love for his wife of 67 years, Gwendolyn, and his daughter Antoinette, born in 1968. He was a hard worker, dedicating many years of his life working in a hospital as a janitor, and later at a group home for boys. He championed for boys to learn how to be successful in life and to overcome their obstacles, leaving a lasting legacy on the young lives he touched.
In the latter part of his life, Edward relocated to Texas after being honorably discharged from the army. He lived with his sister Vicky Byrd and her family before succeeding to live independently, a testament to his resilience and determination.
His legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. Known for his generosity and kindness, Edward was always there to lend a helping hand to his family members, whether for housing or food necessities. He was a beacon of strength and compassion in his family, and will forever be remembered for his endearing personality and the love he had for his loved ones.
