Edward's obituary
Edward Kraft passed away on August 18, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 70. Born on April 21, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, Edward lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to his family.
He honorably served in the United States Army as a medical professional in patient administration, with assignments that led him across the country and abroad to the Republic of Panama. His military service reflected a steadfast commitment to his country and a strong sense of duty.
Edward’s spiritual journey began early in life when he embraced Christianity. At the age of 21, he made a full commitment to follow the Lord, and his faith remained central to his life from that point forward. His walk with God was a source of strength and direction throughout the years.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Pastor Kraft ministered for 38 years at the Church of God, where he became a cornerstone of both his congregation and the broader community. Throughout his decades of service, he officiated countless weddings and baptisms, walked with families through both joyous and difficult seasons, and was instrumental in establishing food pantries to serve those in need.
His ministry was rooted in compassion, humility, and unwavering faith. He often drew strength and inspiration from 2 Timothy 4:7 — “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” These words defined not only his preaching but also the way he lived his life.
Edward is lovingly remembered by his wife, Deborah Kraft; his children: Chad (Jolene) Wright, Sarah (Kyle) Hamer, Rebekah (Jason) Hochstedler, and Adam (Samantha) Kraft; as well as six cherished grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his 3 sisters, Marcia Kraft Hurst, Donna Kraft Linder and Suzie Kraft Hamons. He is preceded in death by his father Donald Kraft, his mother Helen Kraft, and his 2 brothers, Ronald Kraft and Forest Kraft.
Pastor Kraft’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, guidance, and steadfast dedication to the Gospel. His presence will be deeply missed by his church family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
