Edward's obituary

Edward Jackson, also known as Junebug or June, was called home to be with his heavenly father on March 17th, 2025. He was born in Washington, DC on November 2nd, 1958, to the late Edward Jackson Sr & Virgie Barnes. He was the oldest son of four children (two sisters and one brother).

Edward’s early years were spent in Washington, D.C, where he completed his education at McKinley Tech High School. He later pursued a degree in communication at the University of Texas at El Paso, TX. Then, later went on to receive a cosmetology license after returning to the District of Columbia, where he completed his education at McKinley Tech High School, Washington, D.C.

Edward met his former wife and friend, Keach McQueen, in Washington, DC. From this union, one son was born, Arkile Jackson.

Edward joined the armed forces in 1979 and served until 1982. During this period, he received a powerful letter of recommendation for detailed nuclear surety inspections from his time at Fort Bliss, TX. After returning home from the military, Edward earned a cosmetology license and started a career in cosmetology, styling hair across the DMV. Later in his life, Edward joined the noble forces of DCPS as a custodial & facility worker, where he made sure the facilities were in top shape for operations and helped with many extracurricular activities for Washington, DC school children attending Miner Elementary. Edward was a dedicated DCPS workforce member until he retired in September 2024.

Edward was an avid animal lover and enjoyed the company of 6 dogs over his lifetime.

June’s brother, Andre Jackson, and his grandmother, Elizabeth Jackson & Leona Barnes, preceded him in transition.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two sisters, Sonya Jackson and Beverly Monroe of Washington, DC; one son, Arkile Jackson of Maryland. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
