Edward's obituary

Edward "Eddie" F. Johnson, Jr, died June 3rd, 2020 at the age of 93 after a brief period of failing health while residing at CareOne at Newton nursing home. Prior to being admitted to CareOne two years ago, Eddie lived at the Rainbow Terrace Elderly Housing in Brockton, Massachusetts for over 25 years.

Eddie was born on March 3rd, 1927 in Whitman, MA to Edward Francis Johnson and Camille Augusta Johnson (Duckfield). They eventually moved to Hanover, Massachusetts where Eddie spent most of his childhood. His fondest childhood memory was fishing at the river not far from their home.

Upon reaching working age, he worked at the Regal Shoe factory. On May 25th, 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged on October 18, 1946. He then served in the Reserve and National Guard from February 4th, 1947 until August 2nd, 1949, when he re-enlisted in the Army. He served in Korea as a Corporal during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on September 30, 1952.

He married Mildred Rogers (Bliss) in 1955, and they raised their daughter Dianne and their son Richard, along with Millie's two daughters from previous marriages, Leigh and Janet.

They lived in Whitman, where Eddie worked for the town, then moved to Middleborough and eventually Bridgewater. An annual event for years, he and Millie hosted a Johnson Family pool party and cookout which was attended by all of his siblings and their families, and lasted the entire day and late into that night. He and Millie were later divorced in 1978.

Eddie worked as a cabinet maker for the majority of his career, but his greatest pleasure in life was playing golf. He played as often as possible, from his mid 30's well past his 75th birthday. He also enjoyed skiing at Blue Hills in his later years and was an avid fan of classical music, attending many concerts at Great Woods and in Boston whenever they were scheduled.

A dedicated Boston Red Sox fan, Eddie enjoyed watching their games, in addition to the New England Patriots games and professional golf tournaments on television. He and Richard attended the annual PGA golf tournament held in Sutton, Massachusetts each year for over 30 years, until the Pleasant Valley Country Club stopped sponsoring them in 1998.

With regard to his family and friends, Eddie was always willing and quick to provide whatever help was necessary whenever the need arose.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edward F. Johnson, Sr. and Camille Johnson, his sisters, Phyllis Nelson and Marjorie Kessinger, and his brother, Leonard Johnson.

He is survived by his sister Eleanor Marquez of Fairfield, California, step-daughters Shirley Norton and Janet Kimball, his daughter Dianne Noones, his grand-daughter Jessica Noones, and his son Richard Johnson, as well as 17 nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held at the National Cemetary in Bourne, Massachusetts at a later date. The service will be private.
