Edward's obituary

Edward Thomas Fritz, age 70, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026 while in hospice care.

Edward was born on January 29, 1956 in Sterling, Illinois to Gladys and Ralph Riesselman. He spent his life building not only engines but also strong connections with those around him. 

A master mechanic, Ed had a rare gift for understanding cars--if it had a motor, he could fix it. He was known for is skill and his problem-solving. Outside of the garage, Ed enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Bears and could be found enjoying a night of karaoke, where he loved to sing and have a good time. 

Edward is survived by his daughters, Bobbi Jo (Bennie) Brown, Stacy Gagnon and Aleigha Peterson; his grandchildren  Brandon (Lexes) McCary, Timothy (Pamela) Turner, Victoria (Mehdi) Sekkat, and Matthew Widener Jr.; his great grandchildren; his sister Patricia (Steve) Stowers; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Ralph Riesselman; his brother William Fritz; his wife Brenda Fritz; and his daughter, Brittany Fritz.

Edward will be remembered for his mechanical brilliance, his love of music, his loyalty to the Bears and the love he had for his family. He leaves behind many who will miss him deeply and cherish the memories he created.
