Edward's obituary

Edward Ellis Cobb III, 84, of San Rafael, California passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026 from complications of kidney disease.

Edward was born in 1941 in Astoria, New York. He was the oldest of four children born to the late Edward and Helen Cobb.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Cobb-Boykin (JeanPaul) of Santa Rosa, California; Laura Hrabovsky (Kevin) of Camarillo, California; Linda Barkasy (Michael) of Oxford, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, Allison, and Ryan; as well as his sister, Helen Clark (Aric). He was predeceased by his wife Carole Albright with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, as well as his sister Patricia Cobb Wright and brother William Reeves Cobb.

Ed served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force, which led him to Edwards Air Force Base in California in 1964. It was there in the high desert that he met his wife, Carole, a teacher in nearby Palmdale. After his time in the Air Force, Ed worked as a software engineer at IBM for 36 years, before joining BEA, a start-up that was later acquired by Oracle. Ed and Carole moved to Saratoga, CA in 1971, raising their daughters there and remaining in the same home until Carole passed away in 2024. During his last year, Ed resided in San Rafael to be closer to his sister and oldest daughter.

Ed was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants, attending as many games as he could, both home and away. He loved to travel and visited 40 countries. Ed traveled to six continents, and his only regret was not making it to Antarctica. He enjoyed music, theater, cats, pancakes for breakfast, and supporting progressive and democratic causes. His family will remember him for his dedication to family, encyclopedic knowledge, and kind heart.

Services will be held on Saturday January 31st at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 13716 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070.
