Jim's obituary

Long time Elmira resident Edward James “Jim” Carnegie Jr., 60, died September 14th, 2021, at his home in Southport, NY.

Jim was born September 4th, 1961 in Elmira, NY to Edward Carnegie Sr. and Mary Catherine Carnegie (Rossi).

Jim attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School, St. Patrick’s Jr. High, Notre Dame High School, and Corning Community College, where he earned his associates degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked many years as a mechanical designer in Elmira, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Jim was a long time local cook and bartender at the Elbow Room and Tag’s Restaurant.

Known to his many life long friends as “Jimmy,” he was passionate about sports and often spoke of his success as a young star in Huck Finn baseball and CYO basketball for St. Patricks. He worked most of his mechanical designing career at Kimberly Clark in Beech Island, SC where he worked for over 10 years. He was survived by his son Joshua Carnegie of Elmira, mother, Mary Catherine Carnegie of Walkertown, NC, sisters and brother-in-laws, Fred and Patty Dales (Carnegie) of Columbia, SC, Robert and Chrissy Formeck (Carnegie) of Horseheads, Marianne Carnegie of Walkertown, NC, nieces and nephews, Christopher Dales of Columbia, SC, Michael Carnegie of Walkertown, NC, Jonathan and Jenny Faithful of Walkertown, NC, Danny Formeck of Charlotte, NC, Robert and Nicole Formeck of Charlotte, NC, Nicole Formeck of Horseheads, and grandchildren, Bryson Carnegie of Spring Hill, FL, Dax Carnegie of Elmira and ex-wife of 17 years, Joy Murphy (Glover) of Summerville, SC.
