Edward's obituary

Edward Louis Caputo, a man of remarkable character and integrity, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023 in Gainesville Florida at the age of 96. "Ed" was born on September 15, 1927. He led a life abundant with love, laughter, and accomplishments. Edward's legacy, characterized by brilliance and an unwavering dedication to his family, will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the good fortune of crossing his path. His sense of humor will be remembered by all.

Edward is lovingly survived by his wife, Virginia Mahoney Caputo, with whom he shared a beautiful matrimonial journey for 67 years. Their love story stood the test of time and they both found profound joy in their favorite haunt, the beach, and relishing their shared favorite dish with friends and family,  Grandma's Pasta Dinner, complete with Grandma's meatballs and Ed's classic martini.

Edward's love radiated equally for his children; Christopher Patrick (Barbara) Caputo and Mark Edward Caputo and his daughter, Regina Caputo (Jan) Kania, all of whom cherished him dearly. His grandsons, with which he shares his name, Luke Edward, Nicholas Edward and Benjamin Edward Caputo, and granddaughters, Caroline Caputo, Mila, and Ava Kania, will remember their grandfather as a man of wisdom and strength. Edward was predeceased by his sisters, Diane Caputo and Rose Mary Berquist, whose memories will continue to live within the family.

The Navy saw a surge of courage when Edward entered the Naval Air Corp in 1945. His training to be a pilot in World War II instilled in him a discipline and resilience that defined the rest of his life. After his time in the service, Edward graduated from Youngstown College in 1949, and later pursued dentistry, graduating from St. Louis University Dental School in 1959.

Edward gave his heart to Youngstown, Ohio, serving as a beloved family dentist for four decades. Dr. Caputo's dedication to his profession and commitment to his patients made him an exceptional figure in the community. After retirement, he volunteered his dental expertise to those in need. When he wasn't in his dental office, you could find Edward on the golf course, rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes or humming his favorite song, Frank Sinatra's "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)".

Edward Caputo will not be remembered merely as an individual who existed, but as a man who truly lived, a man who loved, and left a lasting legacy on this world. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

Edward will be laid to rest with his family at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
