Edith's obituary
Edith Vieira Furtado, 72, of Haymarket VA, passed away on 6 September 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born to her father Simonides Jose Vieira and mother Nair da Silva Vieira, on 11 September 1948, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. She married her High School sweetheart Gerson Ribeiro Furtado in 1970 and had three children. She and Gerson left Brazil in 1989 to serve in ministry in the United States. Edith and Gerson proudly became US citizens and made the US their permanent home.
Edith is survived by her husband Gerson, daughters Patricia Furtado Evans and Ingrid Furtado Reider; sons-in-law Scott Evans and Daniel Reider; and four beautiful grandchildren, Andrew Reider, Vanessa Evans, Samantha Reider, and Juliana Evans. Edith is also survived by her brother Paulo Cesar Vieira, sisters Elizabeth Vieira de Oliveira and Eliane Vieira Augusto, step-siblings Fabiano and Miriam Vieira; and a nephew Cassiano Furtado whom she treated like a son. Her parents and beloved son, Fabio Vieira Furtado, preceded her in death.
Edith was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind many beautiful memories. She was a supportive wife, dedicated mother, loving grandmother, compassionate sister, and a trusted friend to many. She had a passion for sharing her love of Jesus and a gift for bringing others to Christ. An accomplished business-woman, Edith pursued and established various ventures in her lifetime, to include a clothing company in Brazil, and a cleaning business of 32 years in the US. She was a gardener at heart, creative and artistic; often leaving a personal touch in everything she did. Her strong fighting spirit was always prevalent and she used it to push through the hard days during her battle with cancer. She loved her family dearly, but leaned into her bible as she trusted God and His plans for her life. If she could say one more thing to us today, she would say, “I pray that I see each of you in heaven again. Blessings upon blessings to you.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at Immanuel Bible Church on Thursday, 16 September at 1:00 p.m. In honor of Edith’s love of flowers and a life well lived, we want to brighten up the room with colorful attire!
