Edith's obituary
She will be joyfully remembered by her children, Victoria Smith, Lee Ferguson, Carla Bowles, Ruth Early, Penney Lurie and Pat Works, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Jewell Ferguson in 1986, her son Robert Ferguson in 1979, her daughter Linda Ferguson in 2003 and granddaughter Tonya Kent in 1990 . The matriarch was born on April 23, 1921 in Bassano, Alberta to Seth Sommerville & Lela May Hart. The family homesteaded in Dawson Creek BC in 1928 with 8 children and 1 more on the way. Edith raised her children in Atlanta, GA and Vancouver BC. She was a devout Christian, loving and dedicated mother, always putting her children before herself. When she retired, she moved into a small community in Langley BC where she was very involved in various activities. She loved to garden on her patio and look out onto the pond to gaze at nature, specifically the many animals that could be seen. She remained involved in all of her children and grandchildren’s lives, making it a point to visit for births, milestones of all types, and whenever her children needed her most.
Edith was a loving mother and granny to so many. She was strong, independent and loving and will be sincerely missed.
Edith wanted this poem shared:
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not for long.
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that once we shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we must all take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the master plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
Laugh at all the things we used to do.
Miss me, but let me go.
