Edith "Betsy"'s obituary
She was born to the late Willard Hartig Lemmerz MD and Grace Tubbs Lemmerz on September 15, 1941 at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Betsy attended Wood-Ridge High School and was a part of the Graduating Class of 1959, before attending Bergen County Vocational School where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later relocated to Glendale, Arizona and was employed at Maricopa County Medical Center Burn Unit where she served for several years. In 1983, Betsy was part of a medical mission to Aftica. She was part of a team who vaccinated babies in Uganda. She later worked at several nursing homes serving the elderly. She also worked at Banner Thunderbird Hospital in Glendale where she retired in 2012.
Betsy volunteered for years as the wedding coordinator and “coffee lady” at Palm Valley Christian Church in Phoenix before becoming a founding member and deaconess of Compass Bible Church in Youngtown, Az.
Despite her hectic work and volunteer schedule, Betsy loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to stay with her children and grandchildren in New Jersey and Kansas as well as Arizona.
She is survived by her sister Elaine Lemmerz-Brown of Glendale, Az. Her sons: Ed (Ceaven) Evans of Manhattan, Ks; Ted (Terri) Evans of Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Daughters: Jodi (Bill) McSpedon of East Brunswick, NJ, Wendy Schenk of Glendale, Az, Victoria (Roger) Adams of Surprise, Az. Grandchildren: Brohgan (Adam) Dieker, Willy Evans, Anna (Tyler) Eaves; Ryan, Kyle and Riley McSpedon; Dustin and Derrick Dluhy; Matthew, Mackenzie and Megan Evans; Gabe-Brooks-Evans, Brooke, Emma and Grant Adams. Betsy requested for her body to be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association for research. In lieu of a burial and funeral service a Christmas Eve Memorial will be held on December 24th from 5-10pm for local family and friends in Arizona. A celebration of her life is being planned for the entire family in June of 2020 in Arizona. The family wishes to thank Margie Ritter of Venus Assisted Living Home for taking such good care of Betsy over the years. Margie was an answer to our prayers.
