Edgar's obituary
July 25, 1953 - July 26, 2023
Edgar “Ted” Sawyer Chase Meredith Jr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on July 26, 2023 at the age of 70, in Estero, Florida.
Born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Ted attended Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin where he first met his future wife, Denise (Fox) Meredith. After relocating to Dallas, Texas with his parents, he enrolled at University of Dallas where he received his Bachelor’s in Philosophy. In a moment of divine providence, Ted was reunited with his high school sweetheart Denise, several years (and even more miles) after their initial courtship.
Ted was a savvy and dedicated businessman in the banking industry for over 40 years providing insight, advice, and business plans for countless projects and clients in the Dallas area and beyond. His passion for helping others fulfill their dreams of working independently is only one small facet of his character that made him beloved and respected by many.
A true Renaissance man, Ted loved to keep his brain sharp by completing the daily crossword in pen, scribbling poetry in his notebooks, basking in the sun while landscaping, and fiddling with his tools to remedy any household problems; through all this, he always found a way to save time and energy to watch his Packers and Cowboys battle their weekly foes on the field. One of his most prized possessions was his Austin Healey that he worked to restore, show, and race as a hobby with his father, Edgar Sawyer Meredith. His days of attending car shows was a highlight of his life that bonded him with his father, and he shared the joy with his children. One of his greatest joys was spending time with family and friends over a communal meal, a celebratory drink, or a scintillating conversation.
Ted could bring levity to any moment by inserting a well-timed Dad joke or pun. This trait endeared him to many, coupled with his hospitable spirit and zest for fun. He was the 'go-to-guy' for countless people, always equipped with a thoughtful answer and an eager willingness to help. His patient and calm demeanor strengthened the spirit of those around him. His absence is felt by many family members and friends, but his legacy continues through the indelible impression left on the lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Sawyer Chase Meredith and Ruth Ann (Neff) Meredith; and his brother Michael Roy Meredith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Denise; children Robert “Bob” Pulliam and his wife Jessica of Dallas, TX; Edgar “Ted” Sawyer Chase Meredith III of Austin, TX; and Valeria “Annie” (Meredith) Hero and her husband, Samuel of Klein, TX; his siblings Catherine Neff Brady, Charlotte Chase Meredith, and Curry Chase Darlington; four grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his much loved pup Lucy.
