Edgar Hoover's obituary

Edgar Hoover Bankard, Jr., 85, of Fairfield Glade, Crossville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025. Born in Flint, Michigan on April 8, 1940, Hoover spent most of his professional life at General Motors, working at Buick City. Outside of work, Hoover gave generously of his time and energy, particularly through his involvement with the Boy Scouts, the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and instructing gun safety. He spent many summers at the family cottage on Mackinac Island where he enjoyed riding and driving the family horses. He believed in service, mentorship, and stewardship of the land—values he lived by every day.

Hoover is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Lonny Lee Bankard; children Jessica (Jonathon) Bankard Roberts, Edgar Hoover Bankard, III, Eric (Lisa) Bankard, and Emily Bankard Finnell. He was a proud grandfather to Foster Roberts, Brandon Bankard, Isabella Bankard, and Sydney Finnell. He is also survived by his siblings David (Susan) Bankard, James (Susan) Bankard, and Victoria (Richard) Bankard Riel, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Hoover Bankard, Sr. and Rita Marie Seefried Bankard, and his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Bankard Kozik.

A private memorial will be held in the future to honor Hoover’s life in his two favorite places, Mackinac Island and Sedona, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local scouting organization or conservation group in his memory.
