Max passed away December 19th in Scottsdale, Az. next to those who loved

him most. Born July 29, 1937 in Lee's Summit, Mo. to Vernon Decker and

Ruby Vansandt, Max was smart and witty and was an outstanding student.

He excelled in academics, first chair saxophone and many other achieve-

ments, including class clown and skilled prankster. He was a member of the

First Christian Church and member of the Order of the Demolay, further

distinguishing him as a fine young man. Max received his undergraduate

Summit High School sweetheart, Jean McFarland.

With his young family, he completed his internship at General Hospital

in Torrance, Ca., then was drafted and chose the Air Force where he was

stationed at Amarillo AFB, Texas for two years as Medical Captain and

honorably discharged. He traveled back to Los Angeles for his residency

in orthopedics working with the prestigious Kerlan - Jobe Sports Medicine

Group and the professional sport teams LA Dodgers and Kings.

Four years later in 1969, Dr. Vansandt led his family north to begin his

Center and privileges at Overlake, Evergreen and Swedish Hospitals. He

worked hard to not only fix many broken bones, but to heal and make people

laugh, including patients and families, nurses and staff and many fellow

colleagues and friends. Max retired in 1995.

With family and friends he enjoyed tennis, skiing, scuba, fishing, motor-

cycles, golf, time between Seattle and Scottsdale, and traveling the world.
