Dwaine's obituary
Dwaine Glen Cassidy, born April 4, 1944 passed away
peacefully on February 25, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dwaine is survived by his partner Jacqueline Rookes,
stepdaughter Brandy Mychan (Chris), granddaughter’s
Brianna Eshelby (Brandon), Mercedes, Pyper, great
granddaughter Harper and predeceased by his wife Carol
Cassidy and stepson Gabriel Kaminecki.
Dwaine will be laid to rest alongside his late wife and love of
his life on what would have been their 38th wedding
anniversary.
The following is a poem Dwaine’s current partner Jacqueline had found that Dwaine had
written for his wife Carol sometime after her passing:
Dwaine's Poem
Where ever I am, I will think of you,
In everything I see, everything I do
Wherever we were, in our past,
You will be there and my memory will last.
We spent our lives together
We will be together forever.
Think of me when you are gone
I will think of you all that long.
God has taken you at last
Now all your pain is past
We will be again as one
When my time here is done.
Dwaine’s life was shattered after the death of Carol and
looking back now and knowing more of what he went
through I did not understand how bad because I was
also grieving. I am glad with time we were able to get our
father-daughter relationship back.
If Jacqueline did not come into Dwaine’s life when she
did, I honestly do not believe Dwaine would have made it
to the age of eighty. Dwaine and Jacqueline started off as
friends and as the years passed their friendship grew
into a love for each other. Jacqueline is an amazing
woman who accepted Dwaine and his everlasting love
he had for his late wife Carol.
Dwaine came into my life as a stepdad around the age of four and raised me along with my
mom until I left home. Both Dwaine and my mom knew I had the potential to succeed and
always encouraged me to do the things I said I wanted to do. Dwaine got to witness or hear
about my successes and from what I hear always bragged to others about me which tells
me how proud he was. Dwaine also told me over the years that I am more of his daughter
than a stepdaughter. People say blood is thicker than water but, in this case, it is nurture
versus nature for I am a lot like him. Dwaine was also proud of his three grand-daughters
and would (even though money was tight) try to send something that showed it.
Dwaine had another life before meeting my mom but that is not my story to tell.
Dwaine had his flaws, but his best quality was the love he had for my mom.
Growing up with Dwaine I remember he loved fishing, gardening, reading with a bag of
chips or a nut mix with m&m’s and then falling a sleep on the chair with his book.
Dwaine taught my brother and I a before meal prayer “Good potatoes, good meat, I’m
hungry lets eat,” which I am sure was just to make us laugh.
One of my favorite memories was having a water fight in the house with Dwaine and my
mom which is not something I would have ever expected to do because I grew up in a clean
and orderly house.
One of Dwaine’s biggest passions in life was making homemade wine and he mastered
homemade crab apple wine, which made me give drinking wine another chance. Years
back when Dwaine stopped making wine, he passed on his supplies to me, and I thought
why not give it a shot and if it were not for that my friend and I would not be enjoying our
bachelor/bachelorette nights as much. Thank you, Dwaine, for passing your passion onto
me.
Dwaine, I will forever miss and love you.
