Delsie's obituary
Dulcenia Walker
1957-2024
LINCOLN — Loving wife, mother, and grandmother Dulcenia Elizabeth (Reynolds) “Delsie” Walker, 66, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2024. Delsie was born Sept. 29, 1957, in Bronx, New York to Robert Reynolds and Dulcenia (Richards) Reynolds Sauvageau. She graduated from Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston, NH and studied fashion design at two colleges in Boston. Delsie first expressed her flair for fashion by making clothes for herself and loved ones. In the 70s, she wore flowery shirts and bell-bottomed jeans with her long blonde hair and green eyes that once won her a Stevie Nicks lookalike contest. She especially loved her time as a model and designer who created outfits for Kiss 108 FM’s Disco parties in Boston.
Delsie married Pastor David Walker in 1988, and the two devoted much of their life to Christian ministry. Together they raised (and primarily homeschooled) their two daughters and son in the North Country.
Delsie’s Christian belief was her guiding light in life, and she was proud to serve Jesus. She had vanity license plates that spelled “LUVGOD” and delighted in sharing the gospel with strangers. She also led the worship service on Sundays, sparking a love of music in her children. As a family they would perform in plays at the Papermill Theatre (now Jean’s Playhouse).
Delsie volunteered countless hours sewing clothes for local theatre groups and a nonprofit used clothing store. She owned a small business named “Designs by Dulcenia” and helped the greater Lincoln community with all their tailoring needs.
She will be remembered for her generosity. Her family has fond memories of her arriving at Christmas with a van full of presents for her sisters, children, and nieces and nephew. She would encourage everyone to try on clothes and wear makeup—something that always escalated into an impromptu fashion show.
Delsie was a trendsetter in her own way, never leaving the house without a bold lipstick color or novelty outfit.
As a seamstress and server at several local establishments, Delsie was well known in the community. She loved her fellow coworkers at El Charro, and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, David Walker, her sisters, Doris Ellis and Nicole Sauvageau, her three children, Dr. Rachel Walker, Gabrielle (Cory) Loftis and David Walker, her aunts Doris (Sonny) Rossi, Helen Marciano and her uncle, Stan (Maria) Richards, dozens of cousins, her one-year-old grandson Nolan James, her three nieces and nephew, and her two great nieces and two great nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather, Alfred Sauvageau, her uncles, Allyn Richards and Carmine Marciano and her aunt, Margie Rogers.
A memorial service will be held at Mountain Thrift and Coffee on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m. Please wear your brightest colors and boldest outfits to honor Delsie’s memory.
