Duke's obituary

Duke Rudquist died on May 16, 2020. Born June 6, 1940 in Lindstrom, Duke was a free-range boy around town and at the Rainbow Cafѐ, and guided by parents, Elmer and Evelyn. He grew to become a decent and trustworthy man who was always loyal and generous and forever faithful and loving to his family and friends.

For 33 years he taught math in Columbia Heights, and coached football, basketball and wrestling. A life-long athlete, he also enjoyed supporting others, especially his daughters and grandsons. He felt comfortable on fields, in gyms, and on golf courses, especially when the shots were on. Well-known for his sparkling blue eyes, Duke’s smile and easy-going manner earned him many lasting friendships . Always quick with a joke or a laugh, he remembered the people and events of years ago with affection and kindness.

His daughters remember him for his bedtime stories, popcorn and malt suppers, weekly homemade pizza and relentless teasing and tickling. His never-ending patience took him on many cross-country road trips with family.

In retirement, he and Bev enjoyed travelling both nationally and internationally, and always was willing to embark on any new adventure his wife dreamed up.

He is survived by Bev, his wife of 53 years, his daughters Anne and Dan Friederichs and Jeanne and John Hawkinson and his grandchildren Jordan (Justine), Alexandra (Corey), Aidan and Jarrett, and great-grandchildren Stella, Graham and Dorothy; sister Daphne (Jim) Molnar and brother Dwight (Lisa) Rudquist.

A Virtual celebration of life is being planned.

Memorials preferred to American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, Fairview Lakes Hospice, and Lindstrom’s Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
