Duane's obituary

Duane  Conner Rhyne Jr.  March 16, 1951 - February 1, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Duane Conner Rhyne Jr., or as many knew him, Corky, on February 1, 2023. Born on March 16, 1951, Duane was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, and mentor to many during his 71 years of life.

A man of many interests and talents, Duane was widely known for his passion for the Renaissance Faire. He would lose himself in the magic and history of these events, sharing his enthusiasm with those around him. His love for racecar driving and working on cars was also evident throughout his life. He had an astute understanding of automobile mechanics, tackling even the most challenging repairs. Duane's dedication to continuously learning about and perfecting his craft was a testament to his character, as was his love for reading, which further enriched his knowledge. Duane had many other jobs throughout his life including a truck driver, clown, woodworker and was the assistant manager of a children’s entertainment company. Duane lived in Austin, Texas for many many years until spending his final months in Fort Worth, Texas living with his daughter, son in law and granddaughter. Duane's personality was a unique blend of loving, caring, no-nonsense, funny, and welcoming. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Although he could appear intimidating at first, his genuine warmth and humor quickly shone through, making it impossible not to feel at ease in his presence.

It was in Duane's nature to lend a helping hand to those in need and to always offer his support, even when it was not explicitly sought. His no-nonsense attitude and honest advice were highly valued by all who knew him.

As we remember Duane, let us not only mourn his loss but also celebrate the incredible person he was. May we be inspired by his unwavering passion, generosity, and the genuine love with which he approached life.

Duane is survived by his cherished daughter, Rachel Small, who has inherited her father's spirit and strength, son in law, Cory Small and granddaughter Liliana Small, brother Darrel Rhyne, sister Marybeth Hyer, sister Donna Schubert, brother Dale Rhyne as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Duane Conner Rhyne, Sr.,  mother, Gladys Schubert,  wife, Janell Pattengill,  sisters, Martha Rhyne Casburg and Sonya Rhyne Silhan,  and brothers, Coty  Rhyne and Jody  Rhyne

A memorial service will be held in Duane's honor to celebrate his life and legacy on May 6, 2023 at 11 AM at 9890 Silver Mountain Drive,  Austin, Texas.

Rest in peace, Duane. Your memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
