Drew's obituary
Drew Meyrick, born March 28, 1950, embarked on his final adventure from Port Angeles, WA, on July 16, 2024. A man whose zest for life made him a citizen of the world, Drew was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth Meyrick (Moran), and his brother Dwight. He is survived by his Aunt Jean Siefertson of Peoria, AZ, her children, and a multitude of friends and surrogate family members who cherished him as a friend, partner, and confidant.
From the vibrant streets of Argentina, a place he loved more than most, to the serene coasts of Spain and Mexico, and a multitude of states, Drew was a true globetrotter who lived by the motto, “I’ve crossed state lines like most people cross streets.” His love for travel was matched by his passion for the arts, adoring ballet and cherishing quality cinema and music. He was an avid sailor in his younger years, and his many artistic talents spanned metalworking, woodworking, and landscaping, each filling his environments with beauty and life.
Drew’s professional journey was as varied as his travels. After earning his keep as a self-made draftsman, he worked for Milwaukee Crane in Portland and eventually joined Boeing as an engineer in the Seattle area before retiring. Whether crafting detailed blueprints or navigating the complexities of engineering, Drew brought the same meticulous care to his work that he did to every aspect of his life.
His culinary skills were legendary, Drew was particularly known for his clam chowder, teriyaki chicken, and roast lamb, and to the delight of many a lucky dinner guest. He turned his home into an oasis of unique plants, often sharing cuttings and care tips with friends. After his brother Dwight lost his sight, Drew's profound sense of family led him to move to Portland to assist him, exemplifying unwavering support and love.
Drew believed deeply in quality over quantity, a philosophy that permeated his relationships, his work, and his leisure. Each Christmas card he sent, each new friend he made, each plant he propagated, and each place he discovered echoed this belief.
As we bid farewell to Drew, we celebrate a man who taught us the joy of discovery, the importance of friendship, and the art of living with passion. Join us in remembering Drew by sharing a story, raising a glass in his honor, or simply enjoying a plate of sushi, a cuisine he adored, as we reflect on a life well-traveled and well-lived.
Bon voyage, Drew, may your next adventure be as grand as the life you lived.
Peace and Love.
