My condolences to Dr. Sydney's family. I first met Dr. Onyeberechi as a student of Economics at Morgan State University, while taking a class in Humanities. He led my study of Chinua Achebe's classic novelย
Things Fall Apart and I remember his being a person whose stature resonated with me in the way he spoke and the particularity of his diction - every word felt pregnant with thought. I graduated almost 20 years ago and Dr. Onyeberechi's manner and wisdom has endured with me ever since I first heard him utter these fateful words, which he would often say in class and which I have remembered and shared with my family, friends and students in his honour and everlasting memory:ย ย
"In the final analysis, my friends, let Joy be the consequence"ย My beloved teacher, may your soul rest and rise in eternal power and may your memory live on in your work. I as a teacher myself will continue to honour your legacy in my own work. To the entire family of loved ones I offer my belated condolences in the eternal Now.
