On December 18, 2022 Robert went to his reward with his family by his side and is now in the arms of Jesus. He was born January 2, 1931 in Lodi, CA to Robert and Margaret Buchanan. Robert graduated Lodi Academy High School where he received his amateur radio license and became president of the club. Robert then went to La Sierra College in Arlington, CA where he met Dorothy and they were married in 1952. He continued to UCLA graduate school and received his PHD in physics.

After finishing his doctorate, the couple adopted Maggie and Robert. They moved to Palo Alto in 1966 where Robert worked at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. His research was awarded multiple patents for the betterment of mankind in the medical and aerospace industry. His work also made significant contribution to the space shuttle program. He received multiple Toastmaster awards.

He retired in 1991 and moved to Murphys CA where he enjoyed skiing, producing historical videos of the Mother Load, served as an elder at Chapel in the Pines for 20 years, and a Clamper “E Clampus Vitus”. The couple later moved to Covenant Village in 2011.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and parents Robert and Margaret Buchanan. He is survived by his daughter Margaret “Maggie” Fairshon (Kevin) and his son Robert Buchanan IV, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
