Background
It is the family's wish to establish an endowment fund in memory of Dr. Joan F. Bezon.
Genesee Community College Foundation Endowment funds are held forever, and only the fund’s investment earnings are used to make scholarship or program grants. Endowment funds are established with a gift of $10,000 or more.
Dr. Joan F. Bezon was a compassionate, generous and nurturing provider who spent her life giving to others and raising her beloved family. Joan valued education, and remained devoted to her profession having spent more than five decades in the field of nursing.
Joan was an advocate for those seeking health care, having established a free clinic for low income families in Tampa, run by The University of South Florida. Her passion was teaching and educating the next generation of nursing students.
This memorial scholarship was established to carry on Joan's legacy of learning while maintaining a nurturing light within the future of nursing.
This scholarship will provide financial assistance to students who are pursuing degrees in the nursing program at Genesee Community College. Awards from this scholarship fund will be given to non-traditional students who reside in Genesee County, NY with a preference to those students who are pursing degrees in the geriatric nursing field or nursing educator.
Joan was the type of person anyone would be fortunate to have at their side and this scholarship furthers her legacy of compassionate care.
Joan was a distinguished and respected nursing leader who was always learning. It’s always been the family pride that she supposedly read every book in the Haxton Memorial Library in Oakfield where she grew up before she graduated from high school. She never disputed it whenever anyone asked if it was true but she would just give you that mischievous smile that made her eyes twinkle. The library was just blocks from where she grew up and she just loved to read, often 2-3 novels at a time finishing 3-4 books a week.
Helping future nursing students is the most demonstrative and loving way to honor Joan's legacy. Contribute
