Charzetta's obituary

Dr. Charzetta Moore, lovingly known by her family as “Chop,” was born on January 9, 1953 to the late John Moore Jr. and Pinkie Moore, who ensured all her daughters knew their way around both a kitchen and a sewing machine.

Charzetta was raised on the East Side of Detroit, where her life was rooted in strong family ties, education, and a passion for helping others.

She attended Keating Elementary, Jackson Middle School, and Southeastern High School in Detroit, graduating in 1971. After high school she pursued a career as a dental hygienist, where her academic excellence caught the attention of a professor who encouraged her to take the next step. Determined and driven, she enrolled at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Tennessee, graduating in 1987. Charzetta proudly became the first doctor in her family, a milestone that brought immense pride to her father, John Moore Jr., and her entire family.

As a young girl, Charzetta attended East Lake Missionary Baptist Church, where she placed a lasting mark in her heart for the Lord — a foundation of faith that guided her throughout her life.

Known for her impeccable style, in her youth Charzetta loved the fashions of the 1960s — from hot pants to Big Apple hats. She had a deep love for Christmas, especially decorating her Christmas trees. She also cherished cooking, sewing, and lending a hand to anyone in need. Banana pudding became her signature family dish, a sweet reflection of her warm spirit.

Her son Clyde Harris III was her pride and joy. Here are some of his fond memories of his mom:

*“My mom loved Belle Isle Park in Detroit. Especially visiting the flower house there, where she took a picture of the pink tree she loved so much. She enjoyed Coca-Cola, and she loved the beach, both at Belle Isle and here in East Lansing at East Lake Lansing Park. Her favorite restaurant was Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Lansing. We went there every major holiday, and she would always order ribs and salad with ranch dressing and extra BBQ sauce for me, because she knew I loved putting ranch and BBQ sauce on my salad. She had favorite TV shows, too — That’s So Raven, Malcolm in the Middle, Guy’s Grocery Games, and Beat Bobby Flay. Those little things are what I’ll always remember.”*

Charzetta passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in East Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 72. Preceding her in death her Father John Moore, her Mother Pinkie Moore, her treasured sister Rosemary Greene, her brother Albert Moore and her sister Patricia Hines.

She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved son Clyde Harris III of Lansing, MI. Her sisters Doris Applewite of Grand Rapids, MI , Mamie Moore of Detroit, MI , BJ Hatcher, of Detroit, MI, Fay Dinkins (Greg) of Woodhaven, MI and JoAnne Moore her sister in law. Her favorite little brother Ray Moore (Pamela) of Belleville, MI. Larry Moore of (Chesterfield Township, MI) and Joseph Hines Sr. her brother in law. Her uncle Wilbert Moore of Buffalo, NY. Her dear friends Verdette Kirkland-Bagley, Lisa Lawrence, Charlene Farrior , Linda Cornelious-Lewis and Beverly Hawkins. Along with a host of loving Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and friends.

Dr. Charzetta Moore lived a life of service, style, and generosity. She will be remembered for her dedication to dentistry, her devotion to family, her faith in God, and the joy she brought into every life she touched. She will be deeply missed.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” – Psalm 116:15 KJV
