Dozer's obituary

Dozer Dean Downs crossed the rainbow bridge on April 7th, 2021. Proceeded in death by his Sister Maggie Ann.

Born in 2008, Dozer lived 13 years of his life in a barn with his sister, Maggie.
In February of 2020, after months of being cared for by the Sophia's Grace Foundation, Dozer and Maggie were adopted by Joe.

Dozers past did not leave room for a very bright future, leaving his partially blind, deaf, and toothless.
Despite his health issues - Dozer Dean was the happiest dog you could ever meet.
During the days, Dozer would go to work with his dad, ride in his stroller to the grocery stores and local restaurants, and visit his grandma and her 2 dachshunds every weekend.

Dozer and Joe were inseparable from the moment they met.
During the final months of Dozers life, he was living in Charleston South Carolina, where he went to all the local restaurants, and frequented the beach - putting his paws in the sand and splashing in the ocean tides for the first time in his life.

Dozer Dean was know for his many funny faces- his long snout and big nose always smashed into a blanket or pillow. Dozers tongue was always hanging out the side of his mouth, and his little tail was always wagging.

In the final days of Dozers life, he developed a cough and labored breathing. He was rushed to the emergency vet where he had many x-rays, bloodwork, and evaluations. Dozer was placed on an antibiotic, but after 2 days that didn't seem to help.
The following day, Joe drove Dozer back to Ohio to see his family- as he knew it would probably be their last chance to see him due to his rapidly declining health.
The day before Dozer crossed the rainbow bridge, it was discovered that he had developed water on the lung as a result of beginning stage heart disease. Because of Dozers age and his struggle to breath, everyone knew it was his time.
Dozer had a wonderful final year of his life ... better than any dog could have ever hoped for.

April 7th, at 6:47am, Dozer went to sleep for the final time in Joes arms- his favorite place to be.
Dozer Dean was finally reunited with his life long sister Maggie, who has passed away in 2020.
